Downtown inthe Frugal Classic Way

So normally you would not look at Greenhouse Tavern as a "frugal" place to eat.  But there is a way to enjoy Greenhouse Tavern, especially if you are with a dining companion and experience the wonderful diversity of the menu.

I was lucky and with a wonderful dinner date who was up for trying new things and most importantly sharing!  We only ordered a total of 4 items off the menu...but it was way more food then 2 people could eat.  We chose one item from each category of the menu.

So the food...We started with Devil;s on horseback.  A quick read of the description sounds like a stuffed date wrapped in bacon.  This is such an understatement of what was presented.  The date was perfectly cooked with the crispy bacon and an amazing sauce that tasted like a vanilla butter.  The other dish served as an appetiser was the Crispy hominy with pork skin cracklins.  I had been trying to eat healthy, but the crispiness was delectable.  The crispy nuggets of greatness were paired with a lime, scallion and chili sauce.  After this first course of pure delight, we went on to the mail meal and "side"  We split a lamb burger and pomme frites.  The lamb burger was perfectly cooked with a cheese sauce.  As good as the meal was to this point, it all paled in uniqueness to the last item of our dinner.  We were intrigued by the types of frites offered and chose the Animal Style frites.  I do not think I can even come close to actually describing this dish.  It was perfectly crispy frites swimming in a brown gravy, melted mozzarella curds, two fried eggs, and the crispiest tastiest bacon.  We were unable to finish this meal and at least half the frites went home.

My personal suggestion for dining at Greenhouse Tavern would be to choose and share several items instead of just a plain boring dinner and salad.  The food is unique and meant to be shared and experienced. This meal was amazing, the atmosphere was fabulous, and the company even better.  One the most important things I like to point out in my blog is the love of eating really good food and all aspects of what makes the meal fantastic.
